Tony Hawk skates at the White House as part of a Father's Day celebration!
The Cranford Memorial Day Parade
This is the home page of the Freewheels Club of Cranford, NJ, and the Cranford BMX/Skatepark Initiative. Our objective is to unite various advocate groups to create a central Union County BMX/Skatepark. We intend to raise our own money and build the park ourselves to high, state-of- the-art standards.
We got our start by organizing the BMX and Skateboard riders of Cranford, into a cohesive group. The riders called themselves Freewheels, and designed their own logo. They number at least 200 and range broadly in age. THESE KIDS NEED A PARK.

Skateboarding and Soccer Improve Kids' Grades
The Most Dangerous Sport: Cheerleading
Note that I am not knocking cheerleading, but just trying to set the record straight as to how sports like BMX and skateboarding compare with other, more "acceptible" sports as far as being "dangerous."

Check out this site: Stolen Bike Co. co-owned by championship BMX rider and former Cranford resident, Christine Lisnock. She wrote to me, "I have started a foundation to try to empower girls and young women through alternative sports. I hope to start doing speaking engagements at schools and youth groups. My other goal is to send one kid (preferably a girl) to Woodward next year. ... I know what cycling and skateboarding have done for me, self confidence, self-esteem, perserverance, networking, travel the world, life-long friendships..."

BMX rider Raymond Briant got another ticket from Detective Widdows on June 13th. Not to worry, it was a blue ticket, one that entitles you to a free slice of pizza if you are seen wearing a helmet while riding. We had our doubts about this reward program as seen on Cranford.com, but apparently it's for real! Here's another reason to wear your helmet. Thanks to the Detective and thanks to Il Giardino for making yummy pizza.
