This is the home page of the Freewheels Club of Cranford, NJ, and the Cranford BMX/Skatepark Initiative. Our purpose is to gather public support of a skatepark in Central Union County, New Jersey.
The Freewheels Club raises money for children's activities such as our helmet decorating party, Nomahegan Park cleanup, and our famous Spaghetti Dinners. The kids are also involved in the political process and design of the park. We think it's great that they are taking an active role in their community. You may donate to us here:
Cranford Skatepark Initiative PO Box 1583 Cranford, NJ 07016
Thank you!
In case you are wondering about our website name, skatingisnotacrime, we chose it and will stick by it until a legal park is built for the kids to ride in.
breaking News!!
by monica on JUNE 21, 2010
Notes from May 5 meeting:
1) Many riders have given up hope on ever having a park near Cranford.
2) Many riders since September 2008 already have driver's licenses and can go elsewhere.
3) New, younger riders don't know about us yet. (Please spread the word!)
4) Police have not been hassling kids since the Cranford Freewheels formed in September 2008. We may have had an impact on policy.
5) We are going to make efforts to preserve and protect the Nomo Dirt Jumps.
6) Chris Hamilton will be maintaining the Cranford Freewheels Facebook page.
7) Chris Dolan will be calling the meetings.
8) We gave away T-shirts to club members.
9) We still think that the Hillside Ave site was TOO SMALL and would like the township to consider Orange Ave. pool and the conservation center.
***************
Cranford reconsiders site for skatepark. Actually, the Hillside Avenue site was very unsuitable for a skatepark. The Township Committee offered this tiny triangle of land next to the tennis courts for a BMX skatepark.

our town
by monica on June 21, 2010
Dear Martha Garcia, Is that thing outside Baron's Drugs one of those NEW bike racks that you told us the town already has back in July, 2009? Whatever it is, I like the design of itm but IS IT A BIKE RACK??? So far, I have not seen any bikes locked to it. BTW - Until they are installed, we are in violation of township ordinance if we lock our bikes to any free-standing pole or lampost. We understand that government is a slow process, but this is ridiculous especially since we have it on good authority that the old, perfectly good bike racks are still at the Roundhouse. No wonder Cranford government has money problems.
THE T-SHIRTS ARE HERE!
They will be offered for sale at the Cranford Bike Shop, 109 North Union Ave. $10! 50/50 cotton polyester blend. In red or yellow; sizes children and adults, small, medium, large. Contact Monica at cranfordfreewheels@yahoo.com
